This carving is my representation of an Apache. The Apache were a fierce nation of people who inhabited the areas of present day Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico. They were in a constant state of war with the inhabitants of Mexico, as well as neighboring Indians. In fact it is thought their name came from a Zuni word for enemy. They clung feriously to their homeland against the onslaught of white migration. They were one of the last groups to be subdued by the might of the United States army.
