These woodspirit faces are examples of the literally hundreds I have carved in my career as a professional woodcarver.

Woodspirits are carved by many woodcarvers the world over, sometimes called spirit faces, tree spirits, as well as other names. Woodspirits are fun for me to carve because I can experiment with facial expressions and hair, and sort of let the face take shape with the dictates of the log.

My woodspirits are carved in logs that have been split on a bandsaw, which allows them to be displayed on either a wall or shelf. Each woodspirit comes pre-drilled in the back for easy display.

Most of the time these woodspirits are finished with a natural clear finish, though occasionally I will apply a light stain or oil paint to highlight the features a little before applying the clear finish.
